Description:

The Northeast Ohio Alliance for Hope (NOAH) is seeking community organizers to work

in the East Cleveland community. Organizers will coordinate grassroots issue campaigns and

The community organizer will work closely with the Executive Director of NOAH. The successful organizer is expected to:

Job Position:  Foreclosure Prevention Advocate (Northeast Ohio)


Duties:

Conduct outreach via one on one meetings, attendance at various events and direct mail and phone calls in order to reach people that have been victimized by  predatory lending and/or are facing foreclosure
Using ESOP’s “Hot Spot Card” (HSC) program that is now formally in place with more than twenty lenders/servicers, assist homeowners in completing the form and providing accurate financial information to the lender/servicer in order to reach a mortgage loan resolution
Advising and assisting homeowners with the gathering of additional information needed to obtain a loan resolution

Community Outreach Coordinator


Slavic Village Development (SVD) is a non-profit Community Development Corporation in the Broadway Slavic Village community of southeast Cleveland.  Over the past 30 years SVD has helped to bring millions of dollars of investment into the community.  SVD improves quality of life and creates an active vibrant community through quality programming; new and rehabilitated housing; retention and recruitment of quality businesses; and community building through an empowered network of block clubs, and civic and social organizations

The Community Outreach Coordinator works with community residents and city officials to resolve issues, primarily but not limited to those related to residential and commercial code enforcement, by recruiting appropriate City resources and accessing available other programming and services. Position places an emphasis on assisting residents and finding solutions.  Use of technology is a must, to accurately track issues and their resolution, provide high quality information,  and increase efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.

 

 

 


Major Responsibilities:

1.        Investigate residents concerns and issues, provides residents with appropriate information and methods of addressing problem.  Responds directly to resident concerns and issues which have been received by the Mayor, City Administration or Councilpeople, as well as those received through Slavic Village Development. Where appropriate, handles referrals.


2.        Following “Code Enforcement Partnership” being piloted in Ward 18., pre-screen housing and building code complaints forwarded from City, send standard letters and follow procedures outlined in Code Enforcement Partnership. Maintains system database of resident concerns, follow-up, and resolution. 


3.        Target vacant and abandoned housing, as indicated in the “Code Enforcement Partnership”

4.        Facilitates referrals for home repair, foreclosure prevention and other housing-related programs.  Tracks follow-up to ensure residents are properly informed and educated on program processes and procedures.

 

5.        Develop and maintain relationships with city or public officials to address housing, health and safety issues affecting community development and quality housing for residents. Work cooperatively with appropriate staff to ensure timely follow up on city services.


6.        Represents the organization and participates in meetings and special community events.


7.        Completes reporting required by various funding sources in an accurate and timely manner.


8.        Maintains a professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.

Workforce Development Organizer

The Workforce Development Organizer works with local schools, businesses and work force development organizations to connect youth and young adults in the Broadway Slavic Village community to job training resources and employment. Organizer builds relationships with partner organizations, promotes work force opportunities, collaborates to develop new internship opportunities, maximizes program participation, and tracks participant data. The Organizer is supervised by the Program Director, who will provide ongoing expertise, support and guidance.

 

 


Major Responsibilities

1.  Work with other SVD staff and appropriate community stakeholders to identify and recruit residents (from 10th graders through age 22) who could benefit from available services of the Workforce Development Initiative.


2.  Work with existing partners, (Job Corps, City Year, Catapult On-Line, Cleveland Botanical Garden, Towards Employment, Hard Hatted Women, Employment Connections, Cleveland Municipal School District et al) to maintain and enhance their workforce development service delivery in the community including work fairs,  interviewing locations, and promotional events. Identify and implement strategies for collaboration.

 

5.  Assist and support the efforts of City Year volunteers at South High to provide effective workforce counseling to seniors. Train and serve as a primary resource for the City Year team at South on the available work force development opportunities and how to help students access the different opportunities.  Implement a tracking system at South High School to track data given to students regarding work force development opportunities, appropriate follow-up, results, and next steps.


6.  Help staff the AIM workforce training program with WIRE-Net at South High School.


7.  Work with local businesses to create new internship possibilities.


11. Assist in the development of a tracking database to monitor the intake, assessment and progress of neighborhood residents involved in the Workforce Development Initiative.  Keep an up to date list of all work force development opportunities and jobs available to community members. Maintain database and other reports as required by funding sources.


13.  Assist with grant preparation to fund internship and summer program opportunities and the SVD Workforce Development Initiative.

1) Administration—Assist with the overall administrative needs of the organization.
           
a) Answer the phone and greet visitors.
           
b) Manage the inventory, purchasing, and pick-up of office supplies.
           
c) Assist with newsletter and other mailings and coordinate bulk mailing activities.

    

 

d) Coordinate and maintain press clipping, photo, video, newsletter, and publications morgue.

e) Assist program staff with large projects, grant proposals, and reports in regards to word processing, copying, and faxing, as directed by the Administrative Manager. 
 


2) Membership
 
a) Work with development staff regarding upkeep of membership database, to include: processing mail, entering new prospects and assisting with new membership, renewal, and appeal mailings.
 
b) Process contributions and ensure thank you letters and welcome packets are sent in a timely fashion.
           
3) Assist Executive Director and Senior Manager of Program Staff—Help to manage the flow of the Executive Director’s and Senior Manager of Program Staff’s workloads and schedules.
 
4) SOAR Energy—Provide customer service and process contracts and invoices.
 
5) Perform other tasks as directed by the Administrative Manager or Executive Director.
