Duties: ·
Work with block clubs, neighborhood groups, churches and
other stakeholders in addressing quality of life issues in a designated
neighborhood – be able to strategize around local, regional, state, and
national issues. ·
Function well as part of a team of organizers that shares
strengths and maintains consistent standards in the
field. ·
Develop and maintain communication with a broad coalition of
grassroots groups. · Organize large scale neighborhood summits, community actions, participatory research, and short term and long term campaigns.
·
Train grassroots groups and leaders to be able to identify
and win on issues that are winnable, specific, with attainable goals, and
that build organization. · Integrate community organizing with long-term, sustainable community-driven policy change efforts. ·
Participate in professional trainings for organizers as
required by NOAH. ·
Prepare written reports, meeting summaries, press releases
and related materials as required. ·
Attend weekly staff meetings. ·
Assist in local fundraising. ·
Network with local, state and national groups that are
organizing around issues important to our community and foster
collaboration with these groups. ·
Represent NOAH to the community in a professional
manner. The
successful organizer is expected to: ·
Develop and engage community leaders as evidenced by the
number of residents participating in local organizing efforts (block
clubs, neighborhood summits, etc.)
and number of leaders sent to
training. ·
Increase the number of block clubs, social justice committees
at churches, neighborhood organizations etc. ·
Carry out an organizing campaign, develop a strategy with
leaders, and see a minimum of 100 people participate in that campaign in
the first six months. Additional Qualifications: ·
Experience community organizing and minimum of one year
working with community, union, electoral, or advocacy
organizing. · Bachelor’s Degree preferred. ·
Ability to both understand and describe complex public
policies. ·
Excellent written and oral communication skills,
organization, interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from a
variety of backgrounds. ·
Proficient in Microsoft programs including, Excel, Word,
Access and PowerPoint, and internet research. ·
Special interest in social justice and empowering low-income

The Community Outreach Coordinator works with community residents and city officials to resolve issues, primarily but not limited to those related to residential and commercial code enforcement, by recruiting appropriate City resources and accessing available other programming and services. Position places an emphasis on assisting residents and finding solutions. Use of technology is a must, to accurately track issues and their resolution, provide high quality information, and increase efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
1. Investigate residents concerns and issues, provides residents with appropriate information and methods of addressing problem. Responds directly to resident concerns and issues which have been received by the Mayor, City Administration or Councilpeople, as well as those received through Slavic Village Development. Where appropriate, handles referrals.
4. Facilitates referrals for home repair, foreclosure prevention and other housing-related programs. Tracks follow-up to ensure residents are properly informed and educated on program processes and procedures.
5. Develop and maintain relationships with city or public officials to address housing, health and safety issues affecting community development and quality housing for residents. Work cooperatively with appropriate staff to ensure timely follow up on city services.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Four year college degree or equivalent 2. Previous non-profit experience and/or Community Development Corporation experience, 3. Previous property inspection experience and/or familiarity with housing and/or health codes.
Workforce Development Organizer
The Workforce Development Organizer works with local schools, businesses and work force development organizations to connect youth and young adults in the Broadway Slavic Village community to job training resources and employment. Organizer builds relationships with partner organizations, promotes work force opportunities, collaborates to develop new internship opportunities, maximizes program participation, and tracks participant data. The Organizer is supervised by the Program Director, who will provide ongoing expertise, support and guidance.
1. Work with other SVD staff and appropriate community stakeholders to identify and recruit residents (from 10th graders through age 22) who could benefit from available services of the Workforce Development Initiative.
5. Assist and support the efforts of City Year volunteers at South High to provide effective workforce counseling to seniors. Train and serve as a primary resource for the City Year team at South on the available work force development opportunities and how to help students access the different opportunities. Implement a tracking system at South High School to track data given to students regarding work force development opportunities, appropriate follow-up, results, and next steps.
